I go to Civil War reenactments with my two middle grade historical fiction to present to kids and sell my books. I dress in period clothing. One time in Florida I noticed a lot of re-enactors wearing the same type of vest or shawl. I'd not seen one of these before. The garment is called a Sontag, German for Sunday. It's a little sweater like affair that goes over the bodice and gives the dress a clean fresh appearance for Sunday. They had all made their own and said the directions were free on line. I came home, looked it up and got out the knitting needles. I made it in one evening! I love this little thing. It is exactly the second layer I've needed at many events when the wind blows or the temperature drops. I think I'll make one in another color. This is the website I used and there are some good pictures of how it's worn and used. Have fun clicking those needles.
