Devotion: Resting in Him

When All Else Fails:
God Doesn't!

When We Don't Understand
God Does!

When the path is dark before us,
God sends the light!

God is Good
All the Time!

Truly my soul finds rest in God.
Psalm 62:1

Blessings!

The Redemption of Caralynne Hayman

Caralynne Hayman is angry and bitter over the abuse and death of her eleven-year-old daughter from the hands of her religious group, The Children of Righteous Cain. When her husband suffers a sudden heart attack, she does nothing to help him. In her eyes, someone needs to pay, and if that means all of the men in the group, then so be it.
Dayne MacFarland is sent away to college by the senior elder of the group to learn ministry. When he returns after finding salvation, determined to bring the truth to the people he’s known all his life, he rediscovers Cara and realizes the love he once felt for her is still deeply embedded within his heart.

Dayne faces men unwilling to turn their backs on the cult training he despises. Cara faces men who follow their leader in abuse toward their wives and the young girls of the group. Cara is considered rebellious and inappropriate to befriend. Dayne is the apple of Elder Simmons’ eye—until he takes a stand against their teachings.

Can Dayne's love for Caralynne bridge the gulf of anger and bitterness that divides the community? Or will Caralynne's deadly secrets prove too high a price for her redemption?

Mercy! How Giving God Glory Embarrassed Me!

Now y'all read all the way down! #1 you'll get a good laugh and #2 there's a #GIVEAWAY at the end! YOUR CHOICE of all my books!

For three and a half years, Ron and I went to early morning prayer. There, to start things off, we shared prayer requests and praise reports. I love praising God and giving Him glory!

The day before, I left my purse with two weeks' pay—in cash—in it on the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) bus! My six-yr-old had wanted to take all his friends on a bus ride for his birthday, so in my defense, it was a little hectic with all those first graders, keeping up and everything.

I called the bus offices and told them where I'd gotten on and off and where I’d been sitting…midway, left hand side behind the driver. They contacted the man, and within the hour, he circled back around on his route to the same corner...with my purse! And all the $$ still tucked into my bank envelope!

I shared the praise report at church the very next morning. praising God and giving Him all the glory! !

Well, hardly any time passed--a week to ten days at most--until I left my wallet at the lumber store! I didn't realize it didn’t get put back in my purse where it belonged until I was at the mall trying to pay for my next purchases! Mama was with me. I suppose we must have been visiting away and I absentmindedly left it at the checkout counter. Oi Vay! We flew back (only a few miles away), and the cashier smiled real big. She'd saved it for me, figuring I'd be back! I shared THAT at prayer.

This happened like two or three more times until it was absolutely just ridiculous and very embarrassing to share anymore! I do have blonde hair, but don’t enjoy giving credence to the humor rumor that same are ding-a-lings! I had a conversation with Holy Spirit that fifth or sixth morning, but decided however red-faced, to give God glory. I just LOVE His sense of humor!

I must admit as the years passed on, I repeated my ill-intended habit of leaving my purse here or there. My guardian angels really are forced to stay on their toes. Most recently, I left it hanging on the waiting bench outside a restaurant. No, wait. More recently than that, the bank lady chased me to the car with it...uh, that was last week if I'm remembering correctly! I know. I know.

But here’s the deal. My Father watches over me and everything that concerns me. If he cares about me keeping my purse safe, then I know beyond any shadow of a doubt, He will keep my loved ones safe, provide every need in my life, and watch over every detail, every day of my life. I know how much He loves me because He’s always thinking of me.

I’d like to share a new song that He gave me titled "I Will Trust In You". Close your eyes and listen to it (that way you can’t see me J) and memorize it and sing it until you know it’s the Truth—because He is not a respecter of persons and loves you just as much as He loves me.

His love is not earned or deserved by anything we do…whether we’re obedient or willing to be embarrassed or choose to glorify Him. He loves us because of Who He is.

Want to give Him a little glory? Please share the last thing He did for you to prove His love! From those who share, a winner will be randomly chosen and win her (or his) choice of my novels!

Bio: Caryl McAdoo loves God, and currently writes four series: the historical Christian ‘Texas Romance’ a family saga; a contemporary ‘Red River Romance’; The Generations, her Biblical fiction, and the newest Days of Dread Trilogy for mid-grade readers. Known as the “Singing Pray-er”, she loves praising with new songs the Lord gives her and prays her story gives God glory! In 2008, she and high school sweetheart-husband Ron moved from the DFW area—home for fifty-plus years—to the woods of Red River County. Caryl counts four children and sixteen grandsugars life’s biggest blessings, believing all good things come from the Lord. Besides glorifying Him, she hopes each title also ministers His love, mercy, and grace to its readers. The McAdoos live in Clarksville, the county seat, in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State with two grandsons.

Hugs from God

He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Psalm 91:2

Alone in a strange city. Afraid of upcoming medical appointments. Needing encouragement. I stood at the rental car counter, wishing I could escape the entire experience.

The small airport was quiet and full of friendly, helpful people suggesting restaurants and places to visit. It was nice to smile for a few minutes and talk about the weather. The young man offered to bring the car around front since it was raining and I gratefully accepted. Perhaps I looked as tired and stressed as I felt.

I walked to the double doors, realizing I didn’t know what kind of car to expect. Three or four cars pulled up, but none carried the nice young man. I saw a little red car and thought of home. My car is red. It’s my favorite color. When the man I was waiting for stepped out of it I almost cried.

God knew my fears and insecurities. He knew I didn’t want to be there, much less alone. He also knew I needed a smile. The young man might have guessed what color I liked since my shiny, new suitcase was bright red but how often do rental car places have red cars?

I had a huge team of friends and loved ones praying for me. They had no idea one answer to their prayers was a little red car. I’m certain no one prayed for it, but I knew it was a hug from God. He knew what would make me smile. He knew that every time I had to go somewhere I would climb in that little car and remember His love.

God wants us to know He cares. I often wonder how many reminders of His love I miss in the busyness of life. He cares about the little things. He knows my needs, my wants, and my favorite things. I needed a reminder that I wasn’t alone. That little red car was my reminder that God not only had every event of the next 17 days under control, He would also take care of the little things.

We all face things we dread, that make us feel insecure, perhaps even cause us to question God. Remember. Look for God in the little things. Expect God in the big things. Believe God in all things. He is faithful.

God Remembered

And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him…And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood…Then the Lord shut him in…But God remembered Noah…” Genesis 7:5, 7, 16 & 8:1

Several years ago, my husband was without a job. I needed major surgery. Our three-year-old daughter needed surgery. It was a time of uncertainty.

We were following the Lord, serving Him and giving faithfully, but times of trouble still came. I remember so clearly when my husband walked through the door with a box of his things at lunchtime and said he was going back to clean out his office. His boss had told him he was no longer needed. We had two small children and we weren’t certain what we were going to do.

We were blessed that my husband had been meticulous about saving, but we didn’t know how long the money would have to last. Having big medical bills on top of the usual expenses didn’t help any.

A favorite Bible study leader of mine calls times like this “Noah’s Ark experiences.” Yes, Noah and his family were all safe within the ark while “all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens opened…” The waters raged without and rose above the mountain tops and it was probably not exactly smooth sailing. It must have been downright frightening at times.

Sometimes we are allowed to go through rough storms in life and there is nothing to do but ride it out trusting in the promises of God.

I am certain a part of the comfort Noah’s family had was remembering God, Himself, had shut the door. They knew He had put them into the ark and trusted He would save them. They really didn’t have much choice.

Sometimes we do have the choice of whether or not to trust God to bring us safely through our storms. We can get ourselves in real messes when we decide to go it on our own.

We have to learn that when God shuts the door, He isn’t shutting us in and Himself out. He is in there with us. After several months God brought us out of our storm and provided everything we needed in the midst of it.

What storm are you facing?

This world is full of uncertainties, but we can be certain God is with us. He will remember us. Whatever your situation, choose to believe God is right there with you and will bring you through safely.

Peace in Change

God intended it for good…” Genesis 50:20

I felt as if the rug had been pulled out from under me, landing me on my back, staring at the ceiling, and wondering what happened. The news of a major job change for my husband, less than ten years from retirement took us by surprise.

It’s easy to make plans, taking the current state of affairs for granted, and assuming nothing will change. We have the head knowledge that God will care for us in any situation, but when that knowledge is tested, it can create doubt and fear. Scripture says that man makes his plans, but the outcome is in God’s hands. However, knowing that and putting our faith in action are two different things.

We live close to all of our family, and built the home we planned to retire in. We were settled in our church, Bible study, and routines. Life was supposed to slowly wind down surrounded by the familiar. Suddenly, we faced a future that threatened to take us away from everything familiar and loved. Though not out of malice, our change, like Joseph’s was not of our choosing. Nothing prepared us for what was coming.

Joseph was transported to a strange culture, surrounded by strange people, far from everything he knew, by someone else’s choice. It wasn’t a dream. My husband’s boss made a decision that changed all of our plans.

David’s trials grew him into a man of great spiritual depth and exemplary character. He trusted God to provide all he needed, gave his best, and prospered. We knew God could do that for us too, but we still cried out “Why?”

What trials and changes face you today? God is big enough to handle all the questions and doubts. He hears the cries of our hearts, and understands our fear of the unknown. He promises He will never leave or forsake us, and tells us to be at peace. “Sometimes the greatest blessings come when we leave the familiar behind and take a step of faith.” (1)

Determine to wake each morning with an attitude of trust in God and a believing heart that refuses to fear. It’s not easy, but stepping out in faith yields rewards we never dreamed possible.
