We Shall Overcome!

To Overcome is to defeat or prevail or succeed in dealing with a difficulty.  Christians want to be counted in the number who overcome! Oh my! The rewards are great!

Our Savior Himself said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 If He has overcome the world—and He has because He told us so—and if we are in Him, then we, too, have overcome! Here’s the proof! He also said, “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” John 14:20

You remember the story of the twelve spies that Moses sent into the Promised Land—one from each tribe. Joshua from the tribe of Ephraim (the main tribe from Joseph that later becomes synonymous with Israel) and Caleb from Judah were the only two who came back with a good report. “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” Numbers 13:30b Be positive, have no doubt, no matter the giants in your life!

Another reason we know that we can overcome is “because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world!” 1 John 4:4b The Apostle Paul told his newly converts in Rome, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21 And John tells us, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”  1 John 5:4-5

So we overcome in Jesus, fully believing He is the Son of God! And dear ones! Beloved of the Father and our Bridegroom! He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says our reward will be!

  • We get to eat of the Tree of Life in the midst of the paradise of God! Revelation 2:7
  • We shall not be hurt of the second death. Revelation 2:11
  • We get to eat of the hidden manna! And get a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows except he that receives it. Revelation 2:17
  • We get power over the nations: to rule them. And, the morning star! Revelation 2:26-28
  • We’ll be clothed in white raiment! Our name will not be blotted out of the Book of Life! Yeshua will confess our name before His Father and His angels. Revelation 3:5
  • Christ will make us a pillar in God’s temple of my God and we won’t go out any more! He’ll write the name of God on us and the name of the city of God which is the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from the Father! And He’ll write His new name on us! Revelation 3:12
  • We get to sit with Jesus in my throne, just as He overcame and sits with Father in his throne! Revelation 3:21
  • We’ll inherit all things; and Yeshua will be our God, and we will be His son[daughter]!  Revelation 21:7 ALL things

Facing anything hard, something you need to overcome?

Can Poor Choices Alter God’s Plans?

God gave us a free will to make choices. We are not robots.

But can our bad choices alter His plan for our lives? I believe they most definitely can. Just look at Adam and Eve. He'd planned for them to live their lives in perfect peace and comfort and joy in His beautiful garden .

But . . . dear deceived Eve chose to eat from the only tree in all of Eden that God had forbidden. In A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, my Biblical fiction, Adam hears the song of the tempter and runs to the center of the garden, arriving just in time to see her take the bite.

She sinks to the ground, immediately aware of what she’s done. His love, his wife . . . without her, what good was life? She lifted the fruit, in utter despair, to show him what she’d done. He chose to die with her, took it from her and ate it all—no evidence remained. Did his choice alter God’s plan for their lives?

One month from today, CHIEF OF SINNERS debuts. It’s book ten in my Texas Romance family saga, and offers another example of poor choices altering God’s perfect plans for my hero and heroine.

The cover scene shows the first time Sandy, from a staunch Church of Christ family walks into the revival tent of the infamous Nightingales, miracle believing, tongue talking, pew hopping holy rollers. She went for the entertainment, but seeing Buddy, the handsome praise and worship leader, her heart succumbed.

For him, God confirmed she was the one created to be his wife with the shower of golden sparkles. Love at first sight, he wanted no one but Sandy. But they both made bad choices and altered the course of their lives. God had plans for good not to do them harm, but poor choices bring such devastation.

What makes any choice good or bad? Weigh it against God’s Word. If it lines up, then it will bring blessings and move you closer to His perfect plan for your life. But if it doesn’t, then count harm on its way—its reach depends on your next choice. Will you chose to continue on that course or repent and turn back?

I’ve definitely made my share of poor choices, but praise God His Holy Spirit convicted me. It isn’t always easy, especially if you’ve already repented for the same thing plenty. Being remorseful and coming back into His Will through obedience to His Word, you set yourself up to overcome.

God loves us beyond measure. He longs for us to stay in relationship with Him, it’s why He created us. Remember that next time a choice comes up and consider carefully which way is in line with His Word. Choose blessings, not curses. Choose life.

Empty Nests and Letting Go

Empty nests these days are usually born of going off to college. The young man doesn’t leave his parents’ home to go off with his wife as the rest of this verse suggests:

“…For this cause shall a man leave father and mother…” Matthew 19:5A

So through the ages, it’s changed from God’s way. The father doesn’t keep teaching his son or decide when he’s ready to marry. For that matter, a father doesn’t have much say over anything after the son turns eighteen these days. Have you wondered about that? Why the Bible says it? The concept almost feels foreign we’ve strayed so far into the traditions of men.

In January this year, our “empty nest” became a reality—the first time Ron and I have been just us together in the house since we were nineteen and brought home our firstborn son. We’re both 67 now, and the phenomenon is greatly appreciated and enjoyed.

We stretched out our own family, having baby Russell when oldest Matt was thirteen. The older three did leave our house to marry—not that we had a big say in the ‘who’ they married. Sign of the times.
The before Russ went off to college, we took in four grandsons—brothers age six, four, three, and newborn straight home from the hospital. We were 52 then and thought it was temporary.

Twelve years later, Matthew Ross #1 of our "second set of four" graduated high school and went off to college. Soon brother #2 left with our blessing, the other granddaddy broke his hip and Gregory said he could be a help to them. Brother #3 left in rebellion, got tired of rules and evidently didn’t think his data should be limited…go figure. #4, at fourteen the only brother still with us, wanted the opportunity to live with his parents and be closer to the brothers who are living with maternal grandparents about three hours away.

Though it’s nice to think I’ll have no more teachers’ meetings, open houses, or sports practices to pick up sweaty little fellers, I miss them, too. I didn’t have much time to miss my baby Russell when he left; sorta felt like we pushed him out of the nest bringing in his four little nephews. The most difficult is not knowing what they’re doing, that they’re on their own, making their own decisions. I pray they make good ones.

It’s time for O’Pa and me to exercise out trust in the Lord. It’s hard to let go, though. Maybe because today’s society doesn’t wait until they are going to cleave to a wife. A young man can get into so much trouble out on their own in those years, and that makes it harder on parents (or grandparents), but we can trust the Lord! He is able to keep our children.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

In DAUGHTERS OF THE HEART, book five of my Texas Romance family saga, Henry Buckmeyer is dealing with his daughters coming of age. It wasn’t any easier back in the 1800s for a father, I suppose; though his youngest three girls did put stock in his wisdom. (genre) historical, western Christian romance; 1853-1854)

Jacket copy: God’s perfect plan is oft so hard to determine.
In his life, Henry Buckmeyer has never been so beside himself. His little girls are so young, just babies, too young. He hates the whole idea of men coming to take them away and is inclined to shoot every one of them, but praise God for a level-headed, loving wife and step-mother who helps keep him sane amidst the female chaos. Packed with fun, romance, deception, action, heartbreak and tears, this delightful Christian novel keeps the twists and turns coming.
Will the Buckmeyer home ever be settled and peaceful again? Will any of his daughters find true love…a man he'll approve and to whom he can give his blessing?

Complaining or Counting? What’s Your Choice?

Oh dear, sometimes I can be so cantankerous and crabby, complaining about all sorts of things that the devil throws at me trying to kill my joy, steal my peace, and destroy my witness in my effort to love! It’s such an easy route to ride. Our enemy gives us so much to fuss about! But if we’re complaining, perhaps we should remember this Word:

Numbers 11:1 “And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.”

Paul reminded the Corinthians about how the Children murmured in the wilderness, saying “Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” I Corinthians 10:10-13

What a great lesson! He reminds us of their example and admonishes us to be careful! No thinking we’re doing good and standing tall, or we might just fall. I d find a comfort in knowing #1 that I'm not alone going through tough times #2 God is faithful (that ALWAYS comforts me!) and #3 There's a way of escape. So . . . what’s the way?

Which direction do we head when the troubles and trials pile on top each other, and we need to escape?

May I suggest that we have a choice? Daily, even hourly, we can choose. Consider this: our 'escape' lies in those choices; that it all boils down to them. Philippians 2:14 says to “do all things without murmurings and disputings.” We either choose to bow up and complain, murmur, and remain cantankerous, making everyone around us walk lightly and be pretty miserable right along with us!

OR, we can choose to actually be glad about it! Like James tells us in his first chapter, second verse: “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”

The latter choice will leave you skipping through the tulips all sweet and cheerful, as you choose to trust God and believe Romans 8:28 is true: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” So we can sincerely count the temptations joy and “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4

So tell me, have you had the opportunity to complain today?
How did you choose?

Commit Your Works Unto the Lord

What are you facing? Are you up to the task?

Proverbs 16:3 tells us that if we’ll commit our works unto the Lord, He’ll establish our thoughts.

Every time I write a book (with my husband), I commit the work to the Lord.

I don’t start with an outline. Ron and I discuss the hook and the characters. I type Chapter One and off I (we) go! Ron and I have always written for discovery. One chapter piles on top the last, and we write to the finish with only a vague idea how the story will end. Sometimes we get the characters into such dire straights, only God can figure a way out of their predicament!

God is faithful though, and He knows the beginning form the end.

I'm about to launch title #29--MIGHTY TO SAVE--in May, it's book nine of my Texas Romance family saga.

I never ‘feel’ up to the task of writing a three hundred page novel, but I know that when I commit this ‘work’ to God, He establishes my thoughts . . . and the story turns out so awesome!

At least, it appears so to many readers, because I’m getting great feedback! I recently hit one thousand reviews, and almost seventy percent are five-star, another twenty percent, four-star.
That’s NINETY percent FOUR & FIVE-Star reviews!

Not sure about you, but I find that amazing! It testifies to the Truth of God’s Word. Specifically Proverbs 16:3. Same with marketing. I commit it to the Lord, and HE establishes my thoughts. I have ideas, and in 2015, over 250,000 copies of my stories got into the hands of readers. I consider that phenomenal. I can’t say “I” could do such a thing.

Since I was a child, I’ve been a marketer. Sold more tickets to our school fall carnival every year to win the first place, except once when I really wanted the second prize, a tether ball. I sold everything from Avon to asphalt successfully, but 250,000? I could not do that on my own. I wholly attribute it the favor and blessings of God.

Whatever He has called you to do, whether it’s in the job place or at home, at school or in a relationship. Commit your work unto the Lord, and He WILL establish your thoughts. His Word is TRUE. It ALWAYS accomplishes the purpose for which it is sent forth and never returns void. I encourage you to commit your work to Him, then see what He does with YOUR thoughts!

What are you facing? How can I pray for you?

God's Amazing Grace is My Teacher? Yes!

Thinking of God's grace, I first go to undeserved forgiveness.

Isn't that what the beloved, well known song is talking about? How God's amazing grace saved a wretch like me?

But I came across this scripture in Titus, and reread it two or three times.

"Grace" brings salvation alright, but the disciple goes on. And I'd never seen God's grace as a teacher before. (I love how God does that, brings new light with a scripture you've read a hundred times.) Grace teaches us to deny all ungodliness and the lusts of the world (I do not believe that includes chocolate—consumed in moderation, of course) and how we should live in this present world.

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Titus 2:11-12 KJV

I like that it says 'present' world, because that stretches the Truth across the centuries and millennials “thru time” all the way to present. In other words, it's talking about today! With all that's going on in our country, in the world, grace teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and godly!

To live soberly, we must exercise self-control which is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit. In my mind, this means doing everything in moderation, not speaking out before thinking about what I’m going to say (maybe the hardest for me), and maintaining a level head or not blowing up when angered.

To live righteously, it is required to obey. Obedience has been an easier thing for me, especially once I figured out that it is by my obeying God’s Will that I show my love for Him. “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments” is what Yeshua said in John 14:15.

And to live godly may be the most difficult. To me, this means I need to be like God, act like Him, respond in every situation as He would. I’ve often said my husband is the most godly man I’ve ever known. He continually implements the ways of Christ in his daily life, while I often fall so short.

But I praise the Lord! Because Father Himself has promised to make me into the image of Christ Jesus . . . “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.” Philippians 1:6  I believe this good work of making me look exactly like His Holy Son started at salvation and won’t stop until He comes again!

So it isn’t by anything that “I” do after all. The Holy Spirit is working His fruits in me as I surrender to His will and exercise in them to grow strength in each area. He helps me to know what to do to obey—to please God—by revealing His Word and its Truth. I dive into His grace, immersing myself. Grateful that it teaches me—like Holy Spirit—to live a proper, God-pleasing life in this present world!

Can you add some thoughts on living soberly, righteously, and godly?

Real Reasons Change on a Dime - Thoughtful Thursday

Hey, y'all! Caryl McAdoo here! :)

I recently returned from Nashville where I attended the Christian Fiction Readers’ Retreat (CFRR) and the American Christian Fiction Writers’ (ACFW) Conference’ Marketplace. Carting my books, forever optimistic me hoped to sell enough to offset the cost of the trip; I drove, too. It’s so funny that after all these years, I still carry way too many and barely sell a fraction of what I fully expected to.

But you know what, I like that about me. Was I disappointed? Not for a minute! I was having way too much fun hugging necks and making face-to-face contact with so many Friends I’d met on Facebook over the years!

Joy & me
One of my eVALUaters (that’s my group of influencers who help promote my novels) Joy Gibson drove over three hours to have lunch with me. She’s been a wonderful supporter and fan of my writing for two years, but we’d never met in person! Her dear husband drove her all that way because she can’t drive anymore. What a blessing for me. Joy has a wonderful testimony! I love her! The lunch at Cracker Barrel was perfect!

Susan & me
On the first night in Nashville with the CFRR the next morning, a reader, Susan Lindsey Rogers got in touch with me through my phone’s facebook messaging, and we went to Panera Bread for supper together! It was such a great time visiting and getting to know one another!

Bonnie & me

That next morning, one of my dearest supporters, Bonnie Roof—she founded the CFRR with two others—came in and I could not wait to hug her neck! I’ve loved my Bonnie for years. She’s been such a blessing in my life!

Connecting with authors who are good friends I’ve met and seen the last three years at ACFW and others I’ve met on Facebook but never seen face-to-face thrilled me yet again!

I met bloggers, too, from blogs I'd visited!

My Thursday Thought : In the end, the amazing time that I had didn’t have a
thing to do with books, but the blessings God has brought to my life in this one-of-a-kind community I’m a part of…the Christian fiction authors and readers.

They hugged my neck and we visited! Truly such a divine appointment. I pray you all have the opportunity to go to such an event and have as good a time as I did! catalyst to get me

I love to give books away, so if you’ll leave a comment here on how God’s blessed you recently, I’ll put your name in the hat to be gifted a print copy of VOW UNBROKEN, book one in my historical Texas Romance series!

What Day IS Today?

Oh merciful glory! Today is Friday and I thought it was Wednesday last night just after midnight!

I think my ‘days’ have been messed up in my head since my most awesome month-long island hopping adventure in June and July. I came home so behind (work wise—blogging and marketing) after having only sketchy internet the whole month, so my busy-ness added to my confusion over what day it was!
I just got back this past Monday from being gone another ten days to Nashville Tennessee for the Christian Fiction Readers’ Retreat and the American Christian Fiction Writers’ Conference… Had a marvelous time seeing so many faces and getting so many hugs, but got behind again, and the days remained jumbled.

SO, this post for my Fun Friday is late, but I did get next WEDNESDAY’s post published at Sweet Americana Sweethearts published last night just after midnight! Remember above? I thought today was Wednesday.

Which, by the way, I promoted on several sites! Had to go take them all down, keeping a list of the commenters for the Giveaway… and apologize to the author who really was supposed to post today! Oi Vay!

I can’t begin to imagine how many times I’ve asked my husband, “What day is today?” this summer! But I continue to stand on Proverbs 10:7 “The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.” I know, I know…I’m taking it out of context, but still—it IS God’s Word, and I’m standing on it!

Another thing I say often is, I’d rather be busy than bored!” But there’s truly not much chance in my world for boredom to get any foothold. So, please forgive my tardiness. Hope you got a little smile. For a wonderful weekend, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you find a local movie theater and go see BEN HUR! It’s FABULOUS! SO much better than the first one. Do not miss it!

FREE for FIVE DAYS
PARE-ORDER NOW!

Hugs and blessings and love, y’all. You can grab my book five DAUGHTERS OF THE HEART in the Texas Romance series for FREE today through Tuesday the 6th. And my newest story THE BEDWARMER’S SON is available for pre-order, debuting the 26th this month!

After three ER visits followed by three admissions earlier this year. I was getting the message, God wanted me to slow down. Then this trip came up. I figured things were surely looking up! :)

Now y’all know I’m a busy author lady :) with lots of things to do. New Covers and Reveal Party - August 16th 10.am. CDT with CelebrateLit! And New Releases - The Bedwarmer’s Son coming in September with its CelebrateLit Blog Tour September through the )…but I thought I’d be fine…able to work online a little in the evenings when we moored into ports along the way.

Our bed...front of the yacht;
windows on both sides

View from the dock out our wee window,
looking toward Nanaimo,
What a shocker to discover the marinas—though wifi was advertised—had terrible reception and connections…much to my dismay.

But we are to rejoice in the Lord always, right? So I did. I mean, every day held new adventures and so much to see and do. I got more exercise than in the whole of last year, I’m sure.  When you’re on a boat, and you dock, to go anywhere, it’s on foot! Though I got way off my weight loss program, I only gained five pounds of the seventy-five I’ve lost this past year! Thanks to all the hoofin’ it, I’m certain!

Street Marina in Victoria from the Otter plane!
Ready to board this 'Otter' 1st time to
fly in a small plane! Vancouver Island tour!

But, the answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind...the answer is blowing in the wind :) And so is my hair here. The temperatures were in the 40s at night and 60s during the days--much better than the 100 degree Texas days we missed! And there was always a stiff breeze. I usually kept my hair twisted so it wouldn't tangle. But here...well...it tangled! :)

I pray you all are given the opportunity to go and see and do things you never imagined. And I covet your prayers that I will be obedient and slow down and get more rest! Oh! And I did get thirteen chapters written of Covering Love, book eight in my historical Texas Romance series written on the boat! ;)
I want to testify that God is good ALL the time!

So what have you been doing so far this summer?

Bio: Caryl McAdoo loves God and currently writes four Christian series: the historical ‘Texas Romance’ family saga; a contemporary ‘Red River Romance’; The Generations, her Biblical fiction, and the newest Days of Dread Trilogy for mid-grade readers. A.K.A. the “Singing Pray-er” loves praising with new songs the Lord gives her and prays her story gives God glory! In 2008, she and high school sweetheart-husband Ron moved from DFW to the woods of Red River County. Caryl counts four children and sixteen grandsugars life’s biggest blessings, believing all good things come from the Lord. Besides glorifying Him, she hopes each title also ministers His love, mercy, and grace to its readers. The McAdoos live in Clarksville, the county seat, in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State with two grandsons.

Latest release: AT LIBERTY TO LOVE, book 7, Texas Romance series / Obedience is better than sacrifice…and trumps romance, no matter how sweet. Profound loneliness propels a childless widow west with the idea of choosing an orphan to share her life. On the way, a fellow traveler takes her by surprise. She never dreams, is unprepared, doesn’t need another man, but can’t get him out of her head…or heart. He’s so perfect—every bit the one she’d searched for as a young woman—except his mistrust of God has erected a wall she cannot breach.
Marcus Ford blames God and struggles for peace after losing his wife and baby. Not once has he considered another woman could be the answer, but the widow is like none other he’s ever met. He falls hard, but plans are taking him east. Hope dashed sends two hearts into the pit. If only Ford could forgive God or the widow ease up on her adamant resolve.
Will God’s mercy shine a beacon in the fog of despair and prove sufficient to heal their souls?
