The Lord on Our Side

If the Lord had not been on our side—
    let Israel say—
if the Lord had not been on our side
    when people attacked us,
they would have swallowed us alive
    when their anger flared against us;
the flood would have engulfed us,
    the torrent would have swept over us,
the raging waters
    would have swept us away.

Psalm 124:1-5 (NIV)

These Bible verses have been on my mind this past week. My husband and I awoke on Saturday to a flood in our basement. It was the worst we've ever had before. The tropical storm pelted our area with inches of directional rain over night. It took all day to get things off the floor and to shop vac the carpeting. We have fans set up, hoping it will dry out over this coming week.

I'd like to say it was the only rough thing from our week, but to be honest, we had several series of events that caused struggles and stress.

Despite our problems, I'm thankful that we can always rely on the Lord being on our side when we actively seek Him out and serve Him. It doesn't mean we won't still go through rough times. We most definitely will, but we have the assurance that He will stay by our side. I don't know about you, but that's really GOOD NEWS to me. :)

What verses do you find in scripture that bring you comfort in the midst of storms?

  1. Jodie, so sorry about your flooded basement. So thankful we know God is with us no matter what we experience. Thank you for this timely devotional today. God bless.

    Oh yes, trust everything is drying out nicely in the basement. The weather is so unpredictable. There was enough rain in areas recently to flood the farmers' crops again this year.

  2. We had flooding also but it didn't affect us personally. I pray that your cleanup work will go well.
