Book Review: For Such a Time by Kate Breslin

Today we have special guest, Mariah Holloway joining us with a review of a favorite!

I am a lover of historical fiction books based on real life wars. For Such A Time is my favorite book so far!

For Such A Time is a World War 2 novel that parallels the story of Esther in the Bible. Every major character in the books signifies the major characters in the story of Ester such as Esther herself, the king, Mordecai, and Haman. The main character is a Jew named Hadassah who hides her identity by wearing a red wig. A general by the name of Colonel Aric Von Schmidt needed a secretary so he hired Hadassah not knowing she was a Jew. As Aric's secretary and to keep her identity hidden, Hadassah is forced to stand by while her own people get sent to concentration camps.

Aric's right-hand man had a passionate hatred for the Jews and wanted to see them all destroyed. Of course, his plans failed, and he winded up dying just like in the story of Esther. Hadassah's cousin worked at the camp where Hadassah was a secretary to Aric. He encouraged Hadassah to not be afraid and to stand up to Aric on behalf of her people. Hadassah's secret is revealed which put herself in grave danger and made Arid feel as if he had been betrayed. Does he love her enough to save her and her people knowing all his superiors would kill him for it?

This book is definitely a page-turner filled with action, suspense, faith, and romance.
