Treat Me Like A Child

Meet Carol, a waitress at the U-Drop Inn, in the historic town of Shamrock Texas on Route 66. All Carol wants is to get out of this town and away from the crazy yearly St. Patricks Day celebrations. But when good looking city boy Pete comes to town, yearning to experience a true small town festival, Carol is only too happy to partner up with him. But as she sees her hometown again, through Pete's gorgeious blue eyes, she realizes that God has placed her in a very special place.
Now if only Pete will stay.
TREAT ME LIKE A CHILD

How often we hear our teenagers say, “Stop treating me like a child.”

Yet, in our love and wisdom, we are slow to respond to this request.  As parents, we know that our Teens are not completely prepared to take on adult responsibilities that may be needed in situations they want to be involved in.
Teenagers do not realize that in future years, they will wish for some of the benefits of childhood:

            1. Parents preparing them.

            2. Parents providing for them.

            3. Parents protecting them.

We prepare our children for life by encouraging them to follow God’s wisdom, teaching them to make their own choices which line up with God’s truth, and by showing them how to seek God’s vision for their future.

We provide for our children by supplying food, clothing, housing and other basic items that are needed for survival. Many of us give our children gifts, above and beyond these basic needs, thus, providing a life of plenty.

We protect our children by setting up guidelines for them. Children learn at an early age, that if they disregard these guidelines, they can come to harm. We also protect our children by having verbal discussions with them, which reveal consequences that occur when choices outside of God’s will are made:  Teen pregnancy, Divorce, Drug abuse …. The list goes on.

If our children are rebellious, they end up suffering the consequences.  They are not able to reap the remuneration of our love for them.

As an adult, I wish for the benefits of childhood: that someone would prepare me for the trials of each day, that someone would provide for me and that someone would protect me.  Wishing does not always make things happen.
Instead, I turn to God, My Heavenly parent.  I cry out to Him. “Treat me like a child.”  In His love and wisdom he does.

God prepares His children for life with the word.  The Bible is completely full of the wisdom we need.  We learn how to make Godly choices and continue to follow God’s vision for our life by reading and obeying His word.

…The Lord gives you discretion and understanding…so you may keep the law of the Lord your God.  Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and the laws the Lord gave…
1 Chronicles 22:12
As Children of God, we have the promise that God provides for our basic needs:

Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. …Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?
Mathew 6:25

God has provisions for our life above and beyond our basic needs.  We only need to follow His plan for tithing, and we will receive these blessings:

“…bring the whole tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this.” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of Heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
Malachi 3:10
God protects his children by providing us with a security system; we need to seek this system and follow it.  It is called Wisdom.
Listen my sons, to a father’s instruction: pay attention and gain understanding…
Get wisdom, get understanding; ….Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you. Proverbs 4:4-6

In many ways, God does treat us like children. Our responsibility is to allow Him to prepare us, provide for us and protect us. We do this by obeying God’s word.  If we are rebellious, we are left to suffer the consequence.

Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord?

To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat or rams.

For rebellion is like the sin of divination, …

Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,

He has rejected you…

1 Samuel 15:22

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Mark 10:20

Today, let your prayer be, “Lord treat me like a child,” and having prayed that prayer, behave like a child of the King; Praise Him.

…and the children shouted in the temple area, “ Hosanna to the Son of David, “ …

“Do you hear what these children are saying?” the chief priests asked him.

“Yes.” Replied Jesus, “Have you never read.

From the lips of children and infants

You have ordained praise.” Mathew 21:15
