A Reader's Look at A Most Worthy Pursuit

James 1:17 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Have you ever found yourself in a room full of people with compelling gifts from the Lord? Off in the corner is a woman with such a beautiful singing voice you mistake it for the radio and next to her is a man whose words can weave such pictures that stories just burst into life for the audience. And you are just the person standing at the the door, smiling, handing out brochures, feeling inadequate and wondering why the good Lord never gifted you with such talents? But what you must realize is the Lord bestows us all with gifts for his purpose and there is nothing ordinary about the Lord's glory.
This is a lesson that Stephen, a minor character, in A Worthy Pursuit by Karen Witemeyer must learn. Stephen lives at a small home school with other gifted children; children who can play the piano as well as Mozart or recite a book after one read. Stephen thinks he has no special talent and feels inadequate compared to the other children. However God has a purpose, a reason for Stephen's special skill. At one point in the novel the characters are faced with a situation of life and death. But only Stephen has the gift to solve the problem before them.
So remember accept graciously the gifts God bestows on you and then wait to see how the Lord uses them.
