X-Rays and the Cross

This past week I had to have several x-rays of my hand in preparation for surgery next week. As I sat in the doctor's office with the copies of the films I couldn't help but think of the agony Christ must have experienced on the cross when He shed His blood for our sins.

The scripture in John 19:35-37 references how not a single bone would be broken in Jesus' body. It says:

(This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also may continue to believe.) These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, “Not one of his bones will be broken,” and “They will look on the one they pierced.”

I continued to study the various views of the bones in my hand and thought about what the Lord had gone through for me. Somehow seeing the images made me better imagine the excruciating pain of having spikes driven through His hands. At times it's easy to gloss over the significance of Easter and what Christ did for us. But a simple x-ray caused me to stop and really think about Christ's infinite love for me... and for you.

In what ways have you witnessed Christ's love for you lately?
