Book Review: A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano

Lady Eliza Sumner is on a mission. After losing her family, her fiance, and her faith, the disappearance of her fortune is the last straw. Now, masquerading as Miss Eliza Sumner, governess-at-large, she's determined to find the man who ran off with her fortune, reclaim the money, and head straight back to London.

Much to Mr. Hamilton Beckett's chagrin, all the eyes of New York society--all the female ones, at least--are on him. Unfortunately for all the matchmaking mothers and eligible daughters, he has no plans to marry again, especially with his hands full keeping his business afloat and raising his two children alone.

When Eliza's hapless attempts to regain her fortune put her right in Hamilton's path, sparks instantly begin to fly. The discovery of a common nemesis causes them to join forces, but with all their plans falling by the wayside and their enemies getting the better of them, it will take a riot of complications for Hamilton and Eliza to realize that God just might have had a better plan in mind all along.

Heidi here. I know, I know, this book was published in 2012, why am I just getting around to reading it? Well, this was my first Jen Turano novel! I came across it as I moved all my books from my old to my new kindle. After a peek at the cover and a glance at the description, I thought I'd give it a try. Oh, and I had met Jen at the ACFW conference in September and she is so funny in person, I thought she might have a fun author voice. Boy, was I right! Such a fun read.

The situation that Eliza is in at the beginning of the novel is so comical; it makes you love the character. And the conflict for Eliza, as well as Hamilton, doesn't end there. The author throws them curveball after curveball. If you've yet to read A Change of Fortune, grab it today and make it your weekend read. It is a page turner and a fun read!

Both A Change of Fortune and Most Peculiar Circumstances are under $5.38 right now on the kindle!

  1. I love it when I discover an 'author voice' that just sits well with me. I like the sound of this.

  2. I agree completely with your review. The entire series had me laughing out loud, especially the novella, which in sort of inserted in the first book in the series. I am sure you will enjoy each of the remaining books in the series. I discovered A Change in Fortune, as a free book and could not put it down and have devoured every book she has written since. Enjoy.
