"His Desire Is For Me" Book Review

Using a fiction narrative, author Bob Emery has written an engaging and educational commentary on the Song of Songs, entitled “His Desire Is For Me.” The author's gift of description brings alive the Biblical book through the passion and intimacy experienced by King Solomon and his wife.

Scripted as a 30-day devotional guide, “His Desire Is For Me” is carefully crafted to savor, much like a traditional love story. The book takes the reader through the three phases of love: initial love, increasing love, and mature love. Summaries at the end of each 10-day section allow reflection of the narrative.

Mr. Emery's desire for the reader to grow in their relationship with Christ is effortlessly portrayed through parallel verses in the New Testament of Jesus' life, crucifixion, and resurrection. Solomon and the Shulammite's love mirrors what Christians can have with Jesus. If we are content to live superficially, basking in our initial encounter and salvation, yet refusing to grow to a more mature love, we miss the deep blessing God intended for us in our love relationship with Him and His Son.

The book also underscores how pain and loss can be used by God in "order to capture some stray part of our lives that has not yet fully come under his control." Furthermore, our journeys into wilderness are a process in which to get to know God, for "it is not in our comforts, but in our lack of them, that we are pressed to discover who he really is."
"His Desire Is For Me" is riveting and thought-provoking. The book is a must-read for all Christians wishing to deepen their love relationship with Jesus, just as the Shulammite did in her relationship with Solomon, "her beloved."
The book is available through Mr. Emery’s website or through Amazon.com.
