Welcome and Prizes Galore

A man takes joy in giving an answer;
and a timely word—how good that is!

Proverbs 15:23

Welcome!

We are so blessed to have you join us for the launch of the Stitches Thru Time blog. I have the distinct privilege of being the first host. Our desire is to bring a timely word to your hearts each day.

August 1-3 will be filled with fun and prizes as we introduce each of the 25 writers. We share in common - a love of the Lord and putting words to paper. To kick things off, we decided to play a little game we are calling 'Guess the Contributor'. Each day you have the chance to guess who is who. Be the first to get the most correct answers and you'll win a prize. Today's winner will receive two hand knit dishcloths. (Created in the color of their choice)

Stay tuned throughout the month as we have a slew of things to giveaway each weekend. The more comments you leave the more chances you have to win. Check out our Prizes Galore page for more details.

Let the fun begin....

1. This gal was in her final weeks of student teaching. Her fiancé had the tendency of butchering words and making them into his own creation.

A young student asked the teacher in training if she had to do something.
"Not nececelery." The words flew out of her mouth before she had time to think - thanks to her fiancĂ©’s influence.
The student's forehead wrinkled. "What does that mean?"
The teacher replied. "It means you don't have to."
The student responded. "Why didn't you say so in the first place?"

2. I love the Civil War era. No, I mean I LOVE the Civil War era. When I was in high school, I sewed hoop skirts and wore them almost every day (I was homeschooled) I also made Johnny cakes over the fire, washed my clothes on a homemade washboard, and ironed with an old heat-on-the-stove iron. I think the only electricity used in my room at that time was the CD player that played my Civil War tunes.Who am I?

3. Three of my children played a LOT of baseball and softball within a couple years span. I almost lived on the ball fields. So, to pass time I would bring a crocheting project, sit in the bleachers and crochet away. Well, I learned the hard way if I'm not going to pay attention to the game in front of me . . . get out of the foul ball zone!

4. Have you ever almost drowned in a sink? She did.
Have you ever tossed dough for fry bread with the Native Americans? She did.
Have you ever fallen from an attic to a concrete floor and broken your back? She did.
Have you ever experienced being married to DAN BROWN? She has.
Have you ever experienced the horror of multiple snakes beneath your feet (for future book material!)? She has.
Have you ever been under water for eight miles? She has.
And time forbids me to tell of anything more!

5. I have slight dyslexic tendencies. All right, some days those tendencies are worse than others. I not only turn letters around, I'm also a backward thinker. And that's not all I do backwards. One time I tried to sew a pair of shorts with pockets in them. I was so frustrated by the pattern but I refused to give up. By the time I was finished one pant leg was the right way while the other was inside out. And yes, I actually wore them, for a short time. ;) Sometime I'll tell you about my backwards knitting.

6. I’m an award-winning gardener, and a crafter with a boatload of UFOs (unfinished objects), including a crocheted tablecloth that’s still the size of a placemat and a 25 year-old quilt I’ve been working on. In addition to quilting, writing, and crafts, I love to garden. However, the garden doesn’t love me quite as much. I’ve taken spills off the sides of my garden walls and body skied down the hillside, had numerous trip-ups tangling my feet in yards of garden hoses, and experienced lots of unexpected sit-downs in the middle of the garden plots. Thank goodness I still have strong bones! Yep, you guessed it—I’m a clutz and a procrastinator. I’m looking forward to sharing some of my favorite things on the Stitches Thru Time blog. Maybe the crafting blog deadlines will even help me finish some of those UFOs.☺

7. Let me say right off – I love to sing. I'm part of the church choir and a local chorale group. But there's a time and place for that. Many, many, many years ago I went to a Tupperware party. The consultant offered an opportunity to join up - I needed the extra money so I hopped on board. Frankly, I'm not sure what I was thinking. I don't like to cook or even be in the kitchen – why would I sell kitchen storage products?? Anyway, a short time after I started I attended a regional meeting. I have no idea if all regional meetings are the same, BUT we opened the meeting by singing a rousing song about Tupperware. It was a little weird, and our regional manager was pretty insistent we all sing along. Not long after the meeting I quit – it wasn't the opportunity for me (singing aside). Fast forward about ten years. I was at a party for another multi-level marketing product. I loved the product – bought lots and lots over the course of a year. The consultant offered the opportunity to join, but I was hesitant. We met several times, and I finally blurted out “They won't make me sing, will they?” “Sing? Why would they do that?” So, I told her my Tupperware story and she assured me that wouldn't happen. You can see where this is going, can't you? I signed up and at the very first meeting the branch manager suggested we sing. The consultant who signed me up nearly fainted. I was horrified. They were making me sing! I was so traumatized I can't even remember what we sang, but I think it was shades of “Kum-ba-ya.” I stuck with the company for nearly ten years. And we never sang again. Go figure.

8. One of the many crazy craft disasters I’ve experienced is when my girlfriend and I constructed a hot air balloon for a school science project when we were teens. We worked hard and long with tissue paper and wire to build a white hot air balloon that, we thought, turned out pretty nice.

We had to do a trial run before our class presentation the next day so we installed a hot air source in the basket. I can’t remember exactly what that was but I’m sure it was parent approved. :) We held our balloon up, provided a whoosh of hot air and Wha-La! Our hot air balloon burned up in smoke right before our shocked-wide eyes. We were devastated and wondered what our science teacher would say. He was a dear Christian man who showed abundant grace and mercy. He still gave us a good grade for our heart-sincere efforts.

Years later, my aunt asked me to accompany her on a hot air balloon ride in our local area. I have to tell you, when that whoosh of hot air rushed up beside me, I held my breath, expecting us to go up in flames any minute. Of course, it didn’t and I’m happy to say that particular hot air balloon worked perfectly as planned. Funny how a crazy craft project can come back to haunt you when you least expect it. :)

  7. Those were great! I just sat here laughing at the computer....gaining several strange looks from my cat....and after the day I've had I needed the laugh. And to know I'm not alone. And apparently not adventurous enough.
