When rumors of a Healer from Nazareth reach the colony, Aaliyah wonders if this man could really heal her, or if He would despise her like the rest of her people. Meet Malon Ben Tyrus - Disciple of Jesus

Blogger: Amber Schamel

Hello Everyone! Today I'd like to introduce you to a very special guest. I've brought Malon Ben Tyrus, the main character of my new release The Master's Calling to visit with us today.

Hello Malon, tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Malon. I am the son of Tyrus Ben Adamiel. I'm sixteen years old, but don't call me a boy. I'm a man by Jewish tradition, and I do the work to prove it. I was raised mostly by my abba, because my imah contracted leprosy and was banished to the colony when I was only six years old. A few years ago, she was healed by Jesus of Nazareth. I'm so glad to have a family again.

Have you met Jesus?
Yes, several times. I want with all my heart to become one of his disciples, but as I said, my family has been recently reunited, and my father doesn't want me to go.

What is your favorite moment with Jesus so far?
My favorite moment is when Jesus told me that he wanted me as his disciple. I am only the son of a middle-class merchant, and I don't have many talents, but if Jesus will have me, I will give him all I have.

Who are your closest friends?
Abba is my closest friend. He and I only had each other for many years, and that created a tight bond. Simon, who is now called Peter is also a close friend of mine. He accepts me despite my youth, and I appreciate that. I never thought I'd say it, but I also consider a Roman centurion my friend. Centurion Vitalis is the only one of his kind that I get along with.

You don't like Romans? Why not?
***Dumbfounded stare***

Okay...Ahem. Uh...What is it about Vitalis that makes you like him despite his race?
He's a man of character. Not to mention he has saved my life twice now. He's very clever, especially for a Roman. He is one of those men that you pass on the street, but never know that he is a sage full of wisdom.  He also respects us Jews, unlike most of the soldiers. He's the only reasonable one I've met.

Who is your favorite character in your story?
Jesus, of course. I've never met anyone like him.

Where are you off to next?
I have a caravan to Caesarea that I have to deliver, but I will stay around here for a short while to speak with some of you people. It's been most interesting.

Hear that? Malon's going to stick around. So if you have a question for him, leave them in the comments below, and he'll answer.  You'll also be entered to win a Kindle copy of The Master's Calling!

The Master's Calling by Amber Schamel

After generations of waiting, the Messiah has come at last. And not a day too soon. All his life, Malon Ben-Tyrus has been stifled beneath Roman laws and religious traditions, and he longs to be free. The oppression of the Romans worsens every day, and the religious system led by the Scribes and Pharisees has grown corrupt.
Malon believes his life calling is to become a disciple of the Messiah and help free Israel from bondage.  When Jesus heads to Jerusalem for the Passover feast, Malon knows this will be a historic event. Jesus will enter the city as the Son of David and take His place as the Messiah of Israel. He longs to follow Jesus to Jerusalem, but his family won't allow him to go.
When at last his family consents, Malon arrives in Jerusalem only to discover that he is too late. The man he thought to be the Messiah has been crucified, and Barabbas—his greatest enemy—has been set free.
Appalled by the cowardice of Jesus' disciples, Malon returns home seething with frustration and despair. Everything he believed he was destined to become died with Jesus. Was he wrong about his destiny?

Confessions of a Book Crier

Confessions of a Book Crier

by Amber Schamel

I'm not one of those gals that cries a lot. In fact, I tend to cry more often out of frustration than sadness. But I will confess, there have been a couple of books that made me cry. It's a tough thing to do, but it has happened.

I think the first book that ever made me cry was Beulah by Augusta Jane Evans. It was an old book I picked up at an antique store. As it turns out, it was originally published in 1865. Like many books of its period, Beulah was a story about a plain, hard working, devoted orphan girl. In one of the beginning scenes, Beulah's sister Lillian is adopted by a prominent family, but they don't want Beulah. Lilly is torn from her sister's arms, screaming and begging them not to separate her from her sister. a heartbroken Beulah lets her go, knowing it is for her sister's ultimate benefit, though they may never see each other again. The scene is written in such a way that we feel both sister's anguish, and are already deeply attached to the characters even though this scene occurs in the second chapter. Having three younger sisters myself, this picture tugged at my heartstrings and I confess...I cried like a little girl.

Whew. There. I said it. First confession out of the way. As an author though, I have another confession to make. Sometimes books make me cry...when I'm writing them.

http://www.amazon.com/Days-Messiah-1-Healers-Touch-ebook/dp/B00DNJX0ZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413574392&sr=8-1&keywords=amber+schamelMy debut novella, The Healer's Touch, is a story about a woman who is banished from her home because of leprosy. Her husband threatens to kill her, and she is separated from her son for over ten years. Life in the leper colony is heartbreaking. When news comes of a man who may be able to heal her, Aaliyah is forced to make a choice: risk her life by going into the city to find the healer, or live out the rest of her miserable existence and die a leper. As I wrote her story, there were a couple of times that I felt her anguish so deep, that it actually made me cry. Rumor is, it had the same effect on some of my readers.

When writing the sequel to The Healer's Touch, (which just released on Oct 16th!) I found myself in tears for a different reason. This time, it was feeling the character's joy that choked me up. (I can't tell you more than that, or it might spoil it for you.) :D

Okay, so now that I've confessed to being a book crier, it's your turn. What books have made you cry?

If you're an author, have you cried when writing your books?
