Her Blinded Eyes Will See

My friend Vangie, who lived in a nearby nursing home, died at a very young age of 60. She had been blinded in a car accident at age 17. She believed in God. One of the last conversations she and I had was about how wonderful it would be, that the first thing she would ever see again would be Jesus. On the day that Vangie stood on the brink of eternity, her blinded eyes could finally see. Before her death, her faith and upbeat attitude daily taught me to cherish every moment in life and to be grateful for every thing I am able to see: Sunrise, Sunset, Mountains, Forests, Beaches, Prairies and all the rest of God’s wonderful world.  I wrote this a day after she went home to the Lord.

Standing on the brink of eternity
where the gates of heaven be,
after many long darkened years
her blinded eyes will see.

The beauty and the majesty
of Christ upon the throne,
and she will see His smile
as He welcomes her home.

No longer will she feel alone
as she did those darkened years,
for Christ will open up her eyes
and wipe away her tears.

I would not have her here
again, in that lonely place.
knowing now her eyes are healed
and she looks upon His face

  1. Thank you so much for sharing your story and poem. The poem is a literal portrayal of what Vangie lived here and hopefully encountered upon entering eternity, but it is also metaphorical of even those of us with sight here on earth.

  2. I agree with Terrill that this is an appropriate poem for anyone who hasn't accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful and touching tribute to your friend.
