Martin Luther |
On this day back in 1517, Martin Luther made history by nailing the Ninety-Five Thesis to the door of All Saints Church in Wittenburg, Germany. This thesis sparked the Reformation and the translation of Scriptures into common language. Luther believed that the Roman Catholic Church had strayed from the original intent of the Scriptures, and the common people needed to know. Many of his views were seen as heresy by the Roman Catholic Church, and they deemed him a dangerous heretic.
This short video by Drive Thru History gives you a great summary.
So as you go about your day, remember also the momentous occasion that resulted in us having the Scriptures in our own language to read. That's something to be grateful for, whether or not you agree with all of Luther's theology or not. :)
Happy Reformation Day!
Thanks for an interesting post. Happy Reformation Day to you!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Connie! Have a great day.
DeleteThank you so much for sharing this post for Reformation Day. A Happy Reformation Day to you, Amber. I definitely prefer remembering this day and being thankful for our Scriptures we can read, instead of focusing on Halloween (which I do not participate in at all). Blessings.
