This past Thursday my family and I visited Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. It was my first time to see it. We were there for my mother-in-law's funeral. We stood beneath a canopy as rain fell from the sky. While listening to the words the chaplain spoke, I couldn't help but be thankful to all the men and women who gave their lives in their service to our country.
After the ceremony we decided to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We arrived just minutes before the changing of the guard. It was meaningful to witness it since my brother-in-law used to be one of the many who held this duty. As we celebrate Memorial Day, take time to thank God for the many who have given their lives in order for us to have a free Nation.
As you celebrate the day with your family and friends, don't forget to pause to remember those who have given their lives for our country and also to say a prayer for our Nation.
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

Here in Australia we had out day of Remembrance not that long ago.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Mary. What date is your Remembrance day?
DeleteThanks for the post. Sorry for your loss. I lived in the WDC area for many years and often went to Arlington for Memorial Day. The Tomb of the unknown soldier is especially moving. When we went to England recently we visited Westminster Abbey. There is a Tomb of an unknown soldier there, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the post, Linda. I hadn't realized their was a similar tomb in England. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteEnjoyed your post this morning. A wonderful reminder about Memorial Day really means.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ann. Great reminder that the day isn't about picnics. :)
DeleteThank you for sharing this, Jodie. I would love to visit these places some day.
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful I had the opportunity to see them too, Amber. :)
