We’re a Team, Me and God by Catherine Castle

Recently, my husband and I sang a duet at our church’s Singspiration program, a time of praise where various members of the congregation sing special music. The song we chose was JoshTurner’s gospel song “Me and God.”

The song is a fun sing, upbeat and catchy. The whole week we practiced, I was reminded daily that God and I are teammates. Sure, God could work here on earth without me, or you, but that’s not the way He wants things to be.  He wants to work with us.

·       He made us to be His friend and teammate: “You are my friends, if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing…”  (John 15:14-15a ESV)

·       He made us for good works: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”  (Ephesians 2:10 ESV)

·       He made us to do His will: “And the world is passing away, along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:17 ESV)

·       And His strength complements our weaknesses: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”(Philippians 4: 13 ESV)

There’s a saying in our house: Work like everything depends on you and pray like everything depends on God.  It’s a great tenet that showcases teamwork with God, just like Josh Turner’s song. But sometimes I don’t work as if God and I are a team. I run ahead of Him. I lag behind Him, ignoring the Holy Spirit’s nudge. I forget to call on Him. And sometimes I just flat out say, “I’m not going to do that!”

Perhaps you do the same thing. So, the next time life’s day-to-day challenges or hard-hitting trials come your way, remember the words to “Me and God.”  Take comfort in knowing the Lord who rules all is part of your team—the most important part that you’ll ever need.

  1. We couldn't have a better team member to face life's ups and downs with than God. We are blessed!

  2. Nice post, Catherine. Thankful that we have God on our team even if we try to go ahead of Him instead continuing on life's journey as a team.
