Devotion: We Had No Idea by Jamin Baldwin

Upon discovering the value of a 1943 copper penny, my son took a sudden interest in collecting wheat pennies. Feeding this new hobby, we went in together and ordered $100 worth of pennies from our local bank. Getting the pennies home, we divided them in half to sort through them faster. In my lot, I stumbled over a penny worth $180! I looked at pennies, just like the one I held in my hand, behind little glass cases, on display for all the world to see.

Wow! How many people over the past 50 years has spent this penny for only one cent, not knowing it's true value? This spurred a new train of thought about what makes a penny so valuable.

Rarity.

You see, in this world, people take things that are valuable and spend them like they're worthless. They use people like they are disposable. Don't allow this world to make you feel like you've lost your worth. You're not just another penny on the pile.

In addition, the rarest pennies are worth the most. Don't think that fitting in with all the other pennies makes you stand out. Don't allow yourself to be common, by giving up the things in your life that make you rare. Your morals, your faith, your virtue.

Not everyone will see your true value. Not everyone will notice how much you're really worth. But, know it in yourself and realize that God will pluck you from the pile and put you on display for all the world to see. And then all those who sold you so cheap will look and say, "We had no idea."
