God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea – A Book Review

 

From the moment I received God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea in the mail, I knew it would inspire me. The beautiful soft yellowish-peach cover graced with a picture of iced tea invited me to flip through the pages. Before long, I was drinking in the inspiration that author Rose Chandler Johnson shares in her debut devotional book. 

 

As the mother of six children, Rose has plenty of material to draw from. Whether it’s teenage angst, poignant moments of her son’s deployment to Iraq, or stories about cooking, the author’s relationship with God comes through in an inspirational way. She writes about pertinent topics that affect all of our lives like peace, fear, and success. Sprinkled in are devotions like “The Taste Test” which shares a good Southern home cooking analogy of tasting something once and then returning for more. She explains that after becoming a Christian and getting a taste of God’s Word, the more she longed for the Bread of Life.

 

Rose’s writing approach is very down to earth while at the same time theologically sound. Opportunities for journaling and additional reading are included at the end of each devotion. A beautifully presented book, this would make an excellent Christmas gift for those who enjoy devotionals.
