Number Your Days

"Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed."

1 Corinthians 15:51-52

I've been thinking a lot about death lately --- not that I'm trying to be morbid or anything. You see, my precious mother-in-law is at the point where there is nothing more her cancer doctor can do to help her. So each time we go to visit and help out we see a decline in her health and energy level. It's something that is very hard to witness. In many ways you feel helpless.

As a Christian, I know that death is part of life, and when the day approaches, she'll be going to a better place, her eternal reward. But I can't help but think about how much I will miss her too. She's been a part of my life for well over 27 years. I praise God that she has always been a special mother-in-law, one I dearly love and enjoy spending time with whenever we see her.

Because Jesus is Lord of my life and I'm a sinner, forgiven by Him, I have the assurance that even though each of us are dying day by day, we can trust Him with our future. He knows the number of our days.

“Show me, Lord, my life’s end
and the number of my days;
let me know how fleeting my life is.
You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath,
even those who seem secure."

Psalm 39:4-5

Do you have the assurance of knowing where you will spend eternity? If your life ended today, have you made the decision to call on the name of the Lord and seek His forgiveness? If not, what is holding you back from making that decision?

If you have questions and need someone to talk to about this, I'm here for you. Don't let another day go by without knowing where your final destination will be.

  1. I'm so so thankful I KNOW where I'll be spending eternity and that I have loved ones waiting there for me - enjoying the reward of their salvation and the choice they made while they had that opportunity. I'm homesick for those who've gone before and the wonderfully pain-free, tear-free place God has been preparing for me as well.
    This is a terrific reminder, Jodie and I appreciate the Scriptures you've used here as well. Thank you.

  2. When I was a kid, 60 seemed so far away. Looking at sixty from the other side, the years passed in a flash. We can't fathom eternity, but I'm glad I know where I'll be. Great post!

  3. I have a great peace knowing that heaven is my home. I thank Jesus daily for His love and willing sacrifice. I know that without Him, I would be lost.

    Watching my grandmother deal with dementia and memory loss was a difficult thing for me. I knew the vibrant, loving woman. The scared, confused and extremely mean woman, she became was a stranger. I realized that asking for her release would be more healing than continuing to see the changes was best. The doctors had advised hospice and we determined that it would be best. The last time I saw her, I was able to tell her it would be okay to let go and go with Jesus when he came. I felt such peace leaving the hospital that day. See passed 2 days later. I was able to say "She needed to be with Jesus." It is a comfort to know that those you love are there waiting.

    When my father passed, I wondered about his destination. I didn't have to wonder for long, Jesus sent him to me in a dream and he told me he was okay. I know where he is and that brings comfort as well.

    The most comfort I find is knowing where I will be and it is with God, Jesus, my grandparents and my father. Thank you, Lord, for assurances.

  5. Thank you for your post. Death has been on my mind too. Loss my mother in January. And had to put a precious pet down yesterday.

    Grief is a normal fact of life. But I am thankful for hope. I picture my parents walking in the gardens if heaven and perhaps my dear lost pets can walk there with them.
