Not Quite What I Expected

Have you ever bought a craft kit in a flurry of excitement, only to find it was a little more involved than you realized? I ordered this Plaid Bucilla Snowman Stocking Kit last fall to make as a gift for a family member. You have to admit it is a cute.
When the felt kit arrived, I opened it, eager to get started, but stopped in my tracks when I spotted all those beads and sequins. Time was short with holiday obligations and I soon realized this kit would have to wait for another day. Often, I would glance at it and sigh. I’d never done beading before and wondered if I’d ever get brave enough to try.
I pulled it out again this year and you know what? I love the beading. It is so fun and adds that special bit of glitz that makes a project pop. It is time consuming, but I think the end result will be worth it. I'm almost done with the beading on top.

If a project seems intimidating, don’t let it stop you. Give it a try anyway. You may discover a new craft to enjoy in the process.  Have you ever bought a craft kit or started a project that was more involved than you first imagined? How did it turn out for you?

  1. Cindy, CUTE stocking ~ I adore the "glitz!" Yes, I also feel overwhelmed with crafts and tasks alike. I find that breaking the task out into smaller tasks helps . . . some :-)

    1. I agree, Heidi. The glitz is fun. :) And yes, breaking it down to smaller bits is the way to go. Thanks for stopping in.

  2. I like that stocking! I am usually very ambitious in my craft projects. I've embroidered a bedspread and a table cloth. Both took about 2 years to complete. lol

    1. Oh wow, Patricia. I bet the bedspread and table cloth are beautiful! It takes great tenacity and talent to complete a project that big. I hope you share a photo with us some time. I'd love to see them. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. That is such a cute stocking. I know what you mean about being projects being overwhelming. I have so many unfinished/unopened craft things that it's embarrassing. I have a half finsihed knitted nativity that has been calling my name ever since I started this blog. As soon as I'm done with the 20+ year old quilt, a sweater I started and another pair of handwarmers for hubby, I think I'll hunt up the nativity and work on it. This blog has been inspiring my craft urges. LOL

    1. LOL Catherine, I think you are my craft sister in spirit. :) I have lots of those UFO's calling my name. Nice to know I'm not the only one. Seeing other crafter projects inspires me too. Maybe we'll get several of our UFO's done! LOL If you finish one, please share so we can celebrate with you. Glad you stopped by. :)

  4. I love the stocking and you are doing a great job! I often find that the craft projects I do with my children become more involved than I first imagined, but we always have fun!

    1. Thank you for the kind words, Britney. :) As my project progresses, I get braver. LOL I can see how crafts with your children would become more involved, but that would be so much FUN! I love doing crafts with kids. Their projects are so honest and creative. Maybe you could share some photos of things they've made sometime. Glad you stopped by!
