Author Interview with Debby Mayne

Debby Mayne, author of 40 novels, is here with us today. Welcome Debby and thank you for stopping by to visit with us today!

Thanks, Heidi! It's an honor.

You just moved to Charleston, SC, why did you move? What do you love most about Charleston?

We moved to the Charleston area to be closer to both of our daughters – one who lives here in South Carolina and the other one who lives in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, area. My husband is retired, so it's much easier for us to move closer to them than the other way around.

Since I live in the Raleigh area, I expect more coffee runs with you! So, I know you love home decorating. What has been your most favorite decorating project in your new home ~ or at least what one do you think will be your favorite when you stop unpacking and have a chance to decorate?!

Wally and I both enjoyed picking out flooring (switched from carpet to hardwood) and furniture. We decided to choose mostly neutrals for the foundation of our décor so we can change colors on a whim with pillows, throws, and other smaller decorations.

Funny, I like to decorate and I'm done. No whims with decorating here! Now, as a mother to two, you have two wonderful grandchildren. What’s your favorite thing about being a grandmother?

I love the multigenerational closeness when all of us are together. I'm always amazed by how quickly the little ones develop and grow.

For fun, if you could take a plane to ONE place, where would you go? If you could bring one person with you, who would it be? And if you could eat only one kind of food during your trip, what would that be?

I would go to Hawaii with my husband. Choosing one food is difficult, but if I had to pick one, it would probably be fish.

Fish, not chocolate?! I just love the Class reunion series you wrote. The covers. The blurbs. And they are all $2.99 on the Kindle! Very catchy series blurbs. How did you come up with the idea for the series?

The Class Reunion series came to me as I thought about how everyone experiences the same insecurities back in high school. Some people think that the class beauty queen had it all together or the smartest kid in school had all the confidence in the world. However, based on what I've seen, that's not the case. I decided to show all the different types of people from the same class and how they evolved through the years from the tenth to the twentieth reunion.

Debby Mayne has published more than 30 books and novellas, 400 print short stories and articles, more than 1,000 web articles, and a slew of devotions for women. She has also worked as managing editor of a national health magazine, product information writer for HSN, a creative writing instructor for Long Ridge Writers Group, and a copy editor and proofreader for several book publishers. For the past eight years, she has judged the Writers Digest Annual Competition, Short-Short Contest, and Self-Published Book Competition.
Three of Debby’s books have been top ten favorites by the Heartsong Presents book club. Love Finds You in Treasure Island,Florida received 4-1/2 stars from Romantic Times Magazine, and was named a Top Pick for the month of July 2009.

backcover copy: In book one of the Uptown Belles series, sparks fly when Cissy Hillwood arrives in New York City from her Alabama hometown and meets her uncle’s fiercest competitor.

SERIES DESCRIPTION: In this fish-out-of-water contemporary romance series, three Southern belles living and working in New York City develop a friendship based on their fondness and homesickness for the South. Although they’re different from each other in many ways, they share a love for the South and faith in Christ. And they each fall victim to Cupid, one at a time and when they least expect it. At least they have each other for venting, laughing with, and...shopping.

Debbie, congratulations on your new novel, Dixie Belle, it sounds very interesting and I bet it won’t disappoint! Thank you for your time today, it was fun!
